Welcome!
We're very excited to announce the creation of, and welcome you to Currents of Faith, a weblog devoted to providing open and unfolding reflections on culture, religion, and politics from diverse perspectives of faith. What exactly do we mean by 'open and unfolding reflections'? For one thing, we think that humans (along with the rest of creation!) are dynamic, evolving beings, and our ongoing experiences continually transform us. What made sense to us yesterday may not make sense today. We believe in asking questions, and in considering issues from more than one angle. We think that this is an inter-relational world, and we would all get along better if we adopted a simple ethic of genuine respect.
Contributors to Currents of Faith include religious leaders, professors, and laypersons. We are progressive in our spiritual modes of thought, as well as our faith-based commitments, and we are concerned about some of the things that are being said these days in the name of religion. We think that theology doesn’t just belong to the academy or to the churches, but offers an important perspective on a wide range of issues—from science, to politics, to the arts, to the economy; in short, to anything that touches people in body, mind, or spirit.
In spite of (perhaps even because of) our pluralistic understandings and practices, we are thoroughly committed to open and honest dialogue in a true spirit of I and Thou. As such, our sincere desire is that our interactions here may provide an impetus for deep reflection on the issues raised or topics discussed, and substantive transformation of those individuals who encounter or engage this site. Perhaps together, through the sharing of experiences and perspectives, we may each become increasingly aware of the value of both unity among diversity and diversity among unity.
